A Hall of Frames

One of the next projects I want to do is a hall of photo frames. Our hall is not very big (and no where near as nice as this is) but I think it would be neat to do this. I found that Ikea has some real cheapy frames but they are in the stores that I could spray paint. I might have to convince Joe that a trip to Ohio would be nice!

I could post wedding pictures, family pictures, doggy pictures, you name it!

Where is Your Joy?

On Monday nights, I have about 8 girls that come to hang out and spend time in the word at our house. We are learning about joy in the Christian life. We are going through John Piper's The Blazing Center . Each night we talk about the homework we had during the week which was answering 10 questions that will get us thinking about the lesson. We then watch the DVD session. And then we discuss the topic more.
Our main topic is where is our joy. I think in many people think that Christian life is a life without happiness, pleasure, joyfulness. But God wants us to be happy and find joy in life, when we find joy in Him. This study is based on John Piper's book Desiring God. It's been a refreshing time in my life preparing for this study because I know that God wants me to be happy, joyful, satisfied, in HIM, the only thing that can eternally satisfy me! Where do you find your joy?

Being Domestic

Since I have been married, even before, the domestic things in life have intrigued me. While I was growing up, cooking and cleaning did not interest me at all.

But now that I am married and have my own house, I want to be a good cook and learn how to sew. On Saturday, I made Cooper's Halloween costume. I only did a quick stitch but I think it looks cute. You will have to wait for those picture.

I have also been knitting for a couple of years but wanted to learn more about stitches and patterns. While at Walmart, I bought a big bundle of Red Yarn and now I am working on a blanket I am crocheting for the bedroom. I probably have two inches of height so we'll see how that goes!

I am definitely in the nesting stage of my life! Did anyone else experience this?

Fireproof and Church

Joe and I saw Fireproof on Saturday night. Excellent movie and everybody needs to see it! It's all about Godly marriage. I cannot say enough good things about it. I laughed, cried, and laid my head on Joe's shoulder, loved it! It was also sold out during our showing!

Then tonight after church, Joe and I thought we were having a youth event at a church member's house. Turns out that the church surprised us and had a dinner for us for Pastor's Appreciation month. We were totally surprised. They even decorated the fellowship hall during service. It was really sweet and I am so blessed to be at Bethel Baptist Church!

Contentment

I am going through Lydia Brownback's book Contentment: A Godly Woman's Adornment (On-the-Go Devotionals). It is all about where you find your contentment. This book has 2-3 page devotion and deals with struggles that are relevant to women today. You can read a review of the book on Discerning Reader. I definitely think you should get it!

Being content is something that I have struggled with probably since I was sixteen, being content with what God has given me. I have always felt that if I did this, or had that then I would be happier. Right now, I want to be a great wife, cook, keep the house clean, make sure I am spending time in the word, getting my homework for class done, being a Pastor's wife, being involved in church, being a new nurse, etc. I want so much to be good at all of those things!

But I can say that God has been faithfully teaching me to know that God has me where He wants, in HIS time. Do you struggle with being content?

"Now there is a great gain in godliness with contentment."
1 Timothy 6:6

Good News!

Yesterday at work, I found out that I will be working full time during Novemeber and December which is very exciting! And I don't go in until later on Thursday so I can sleep in a little then! God is good!

I am getting the dogs Halloween costumes together! Please be anticipation of those pictures! Everyone keeps asking me if I am dressing the kitten up! What is your pet going to be for halloween?

On a random note, I accidently locked the kitten in the bathroom. Sometimes if the door hits something, it will lock. I am waiting for Joe to get home and let my poor kitten out. But that is where all of his essentials are like food, his bed, and his litter box. And now the he can eat his kitten food without two dogs eating it first.

And right now Bella is on the bed chewing my old toothbrush. Oh heavens.

Cooper and Toothbrushes

Toothbrushes around Cooper do not last long. We discovered his love for toothbrushes within the first couple of weeks of adopting Cooper. He gets some pleasure of eating the bristles and chewing up the handle. We learned quickly that you cannot leave toothbrushes where he can easily get to them. Cooper then has learned that when company comes over, that they have toothbrushes in their bags. When Joe's brother visited us, Cooper rifled through his bag and got his toothbrush not once, but twice!
When I came home from the retreat, my suitcase was on the floor and Joe said is there a toothbrush in there? I said, it is in a ziploc back and he can't get to it. Not an hour later did I find Cooper in the corner in utter happiness with my toothbrush!
I think we have counted 7 toothbrushes. Maybe he just wants his teeth brushed!

Our New Family

The kitten is officially in the family. His name is Levi. He has a black polka dot collar with a bell and everything. Him and the dogs are getting along really well. Cooper really likes that he has kitten food and little toys to chew up in seconds. Levi really enjoys getting into the big dog bowls and eating dog food. Joe acts like the kitten isn't staying but today he bought it a scratch pad!

This past weekend, I led worship for our women's retreat. We studied pursuing holiness and how that looks in our lives. It was a great weekend of connecting with women from the church. The women even signed book they had gotten for me. It made me cry!

Then on Saturday, Brandon (Joe's old roommate) got married on a farm. It was a sweet wedding. We even sat on hay bales during the ceremony.

The girl's Bible study I am doing is going really well. I think we are starting to see growth in the girls which is a blessing!

That was my weekend in a nutshell. :)

Update on Kitty

We took the kitten to the vet and he (we found that out) is 5-6 weeks old. We got some deworming and flea treatment and now he is in his litter box in the bathroom. We aren't sure yet if we are keeping him. The dogs are very very interested in him but the he is still scared and hissing at them. We just have to convince dad to keep him! :)

Kitten

This morning Joe came in the bedroom and said there is a kitten outside crying. We brought it inside and this poor little kitten cried because it was scared! Well, I have been wanting a cat for a little bit. I made Joe watch it while I ran to the store. I bought some milk replacement and kitten food. It hasn't been too interested in the food but it does enjoy licking up the milk. I bought a bottle too but it likes to lick from the bowl. I also called the vet and we are going to take it this afternoon! This is like taking care of a newborn. Isn't it a cutie?

My Weekend in a Nutshell

*Worked all day Friday

*Joe and I saw The Express Friday night, about Ernie Davis the football player which was really good!

*Saturday morning was Bethel Day of Caring where groups went to church members houses to do sidework. I did my fair share of raking leaves before I went to watching babies.

*Went to The Leukemia and Lymphoma walk on Saturday which was really great! I met my fundraising goal and got some exercise.

*Ate at Olive Garden twice in one day. Once for dinner, and then on the way home from the walk, our friend realized she left her phone there and treated us to Pumpkin Cheesecake!

*Came home twice to find Cooper out of his crate. He might be a ninja!

*And of course went to church

Now this may not the most exciting of weekends, but I must say...it wore me out!

Next weekend is our Ladies Retreat and Joe is in a wedding.

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

The Movies

I love going to the movies. My most favorite job I have ever had was working at a movie theater. I was around my utmost favorite food...popcorn! When I worked in the box office in the afternoons, I would sit and read or do my homework. Then on my breaks, I would go and pick a movie theater to take a break with popcorn, of course. I would get into any movie free and then I was also get two free passes with every paycheck. I would often sell my passes to friends for cheaper than the movie price. I loved it!

But lately, there have been no movies that I want to see! I think Joe and I have gone to the movies twice since we have been married. Where are all of the good movies? I think part of my problem is there is no movie theater in NV. We have to go to neighboring cities to the movies. So my new resolution, go to the movies more! So I just walked to the bedroom where Joe is and said, we're going to the movies tomorrow! I guess we will find something to watch!

Weekend in Evansville

I am back in North Vernon after the extended trip to Evasnsville. The plan was to come down Friday night and leave Saturday but with everything I ended up staying until Monday. Joe left on Saturday to go to church to preach and came back Sunday night. There were some really good parts of the weekend. We got more time with our families and I got to go to the Fall Festival which I had not gone to in four years. The Fall Festival happens every October with a street fair of 0ver 100 booths of yummy food. Joe and I went over Monday when it opened to grab lunch on our way home. I wish I had my camera to show how crazy it is!

Also, I got to see my other dog, Bailey. Bailey lives with my parents but really he is my dog! I wanted him as a wedding present. He loves belly rubs and howling for attention.

This is my attempt at our picture with all three dogs.

I also got some cute pictures of our neice Mikah and our nephrew Hudson.

Hudson was in the hospital on Monday. You can read about it on my sister-in-law's Blog but he is doing okay and back to himself. We visited Him on Monday and when he saw Joe he just stared at him. We knew he was one sick Huddy!

Then Monday night, I started a teenage girl's Bible Study in my home. We are doing John Piper's study The Blazing Center. I was going to take a picture of the group but I forgot so you will have to wait until next week!

Update

The doctors are pretty sure that my Grandma has Myelodysplastic Syndrome which is a cancer that precedes leukemia. My Grandma's body does not produce enough Red and White Blood Cells and Platelets. A doctor has been following this but it has progressed. They will do more tests but they are thinking that she will have to have shots to stimulate her bone marrow to produce these cells and Chemotherapy but we are in good spirits and trust in God and His will.

Previously, I wrote in this post about Light the Night about for Leukemia and Lymphoma research and this really for patients like my Grandma so again I wanted to post my Fundraising Page. Any little bit helps!
