Memorial Day Weekend/NYC

Over Memorial Day Weekend, we took our high school seniors and some juniors to New York City. Of course Amelia had to make her first youth trip. She did amazing and all of the students were great with her.

We drove up Friday during the day and we stayed in Secaucus New Jersey. We then took a bus in crazy traffic into the city to go to a Met's baseball game. (note of fun: I left my phone on the bus! Luckily they turned it in but I didn't take any pictures the trip, so I am stealing from everyone's pictures!) They gave us all free hats, even Amelia! Of course we were late with the traffic but it was fun for everyone.

Saturday we went in groups and we went with the guys. We saw the Statue of Liberty, walked to Ground Zero, walked around the Financial District, and went to Times Square.  The students went to see Mary Poppins on Broadway but I didn't think that Amelia could sit quietly so we hung at the hotel. I was walking with Amelia in the Ergo carrier to get some food in the rain when I started falling. I tweaked my knee to not fall but I was like a little gimp after!

Sunday we went to the Apostle Church and they said that Amelia did great in nursery! (I was a little shocked!). We then walked through Central Park which was my favorite! We got tickets to the 9/11 Memorial which was really neat. They made these deep waterfall pools where the two towers once were with the names of all of the people who lost their lives engraved around.

We finished Sunday walking through China town and Little Italy. Little Italy made me miss (big) Italy! We drove back Monday morning in a bus with no A/C! Sunday was Amelia's most fussy day but who could blame her?

Amelia really did awesome the whole time. She barely took naps but was in a great mood the whole time.  She even slept better was sleeping 6 and 7 hours straight! It was great with the guys because they would carry her stroller up all of those Subway stairs. My favorite was some of the kids had never held a baby before. Amelia even let some students into her 'inner circle' like Ashley here. Such a fun weekend!

Georgia!

We returned tonight from our weekend trip to Georgia to see the Beck family! It was a fun relaxing weekend just spending time with them! They serve at New Holland Baptist Church. We also visited Joe's old youth minister Rob who serves as Music Minister at Blackshear Baptist Church which is only a few minutes away. Bella went on the trip with us too so she could visit the Becks. We couldn't trust Cooper in their beautiful home so he stayed behind and had a boys weekend.

We attended both churches on Sunday morning. We had already left for Blackshear when the Becks were leaving for morning services. Bella went outside with them and they felt so bad leaving her that they took her along to church with them! They put her in Jon's office and let her listen to sermons on the radio. I think we are refreshed to start our new ministry here at Bethel!

This is Bella on the way down. She slept in the backseat of the Bug.

This is Bella and the Beck dog Lucy.

Us with the Beck family at church after Joe preached Sunday night.

What did you do for Labor Day?

Birthday Weekend

My birthday weekend was really wonderful! We left for Chicago on Thursday and stayed outside of Chicago Thursday night at Joe's Aunt Nancy's house. Then early in the morning on my birthday Friday, Joe drove into Chicago and we parked our car near our hotel. This was near our hotel. Beautiful!

Well Joe was deteremined that we were going to a cubs game so we hop on the train to Wrigley Field. We did not have tickets but we did have our cubs gear on. After talking to a few scalpers the cheapest tickets were $150 each even after telling them it was my birthday! The cubs were playing the Cardinals so the game was prime. But the field was selling standing room only tickets for $15 each so we decided to stand. We were behind the first base line and standing in front of railing that became my seat. A man from a different country stood next to me who knew nothing about baseball. He asked me questions the entire game but I had fun giving him my vast amounts of baseball knowledge! ha! After 11 innings (of standing) the cubs won! And I got to sing the famous Go Cubs Go song!

We raced back to the hotel to change for dinner and Wicked. We ate a super cute restaurant by the Oriental Theater and made our way to the show which was wonderful! I was not sure if Joe would like it but even before we started Joe was planning on other shows we would see! His personal choice was the Little Mermaid! And we stayed at the Hyatt downtown which was really nice.

Then on Saturday we met back with Joe's aunts for lunch and their dog Gunny wanted to come with us!

Then we traveled to downtown Indianapolis for my cousin's Julie's wedding. It was at the library downtown and was so pretty. The biggest hit of the night was the kid's table at the reception!!

And this is the Flower Girl Addison my cousin's daughter. She is a very happy little girl filled with sweets!

My weekend was great and a great little break. I also have a funny story to tell that happened with our dogs while we were dog so come back soon!

Honeymoon

I finally printed our honeymoon pictures and put them in an album. For our honeymoon, we went to Gatlinburg for 3 nights and then to Myrtle Beach for 3 nights. It was a compromise since I am more a mountain girl and Joe is a beach guy.

In Gatlinburg we rented a cabin in the mountains which was not fun to drive to. I was driving the last shift and the roads were so steep and curvy I freaked out and made Joe drive the rest of the way. We went to the aquarium, a sky lift up the mountain, some Ripley attractions, a mystery dinner theater,a wax museum, this Jesus musical which was very good, among others. We even went to this family comedy show and Joe made it on stage and sang a solo!

In myrtle beach, we spent time on the beach, went to this zoo where you could feed every animal, Medieval Times (my idea) and we went to this place where you could hold a baby tiger and a monkey. I need to scan that picture in but when in my life will I get to hold a baby tiger again? However my true life goal is to pet a penguin.

Roller Coasters

After I posted last night, Joe and I took the bench on our front porch and moved it to the driveway to watch North Vernon's fireworks. I must say that I was impressed for the town this size and the display. Everytime we thought it was over more fireworks would shoot off. However we left the TV on and right when we came back inside the Louisville news was showing the fireworks there and then maybe I wasn't as impressed!

Today Joe and I drove to Louisville and went to Kentucky Kingdom. We have season passes that we have yet to use so we finally made our first trip. First we stopped at Southern Seminary because Joe needed something for VBS that starts on Monday and I bought a piano music book since I am music-less. So excited! It was a little rough for my husband because the park opened at 11 and we did not get in until 12:15. He said that he felt like half the day was gone! Maybe it was because someone would not get up this morning (that would be me) We rode the roller coasters and today was one of the first times I did not feel so good on them. I choose a calmer ride on the Ferris Wheel, I mean Giant Wheel as Joe likes to correct me.

Here is us on the Giant Wheel

We were only there a few hours but I don't think we felt obligated to ride everything one million times because we knew we could come back!

Then we ate at Cheddar's where I tried Chicken Tortilla Soup for the first time. Yum! I am hunting for the recipe for that. But now I must study for my nursing boards which I am taking July 24th...ahh!
